Our Story
Learn our story, from the beginning and into the future.
Ever since we opened our gates we have approached life (and death) differently. While some just see the end of a loved one’s life as a time for grief and mourning, we prefer to think of it as a time for reflection, appreciation and even celebration. This is evident in everything we do, from the way we conduct our services to the amenities we choose to offer. We are not a burial ground. We are a close knit community dedicated to honoring, sharing and preserving the amazing and inspirational stories that are life.
Why Us?
In a nutshell? Experience, professionalism, compassion, and empathy.

We've learned a lot over many years. Like how to present options without overwhelming. And how to meet the needs of many caring parties. People come to us in difficult times, and we respond kindness, calmness and expertise. Our goal is to create a beautiful occasion and make you feel welcome, always. We spend our days planning with families. We stay up to date with industry developments. And we make hard times a little easier.
Learn the legacy.
Lemley Funeral Home, established by Bill Lemley in 1952, has been proudly serving the needs of families in Oneonta and the surrounding areas for more than 55 years. The first location was near the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and State Highway 75. After 10 years, the funeral home relocated to a new facility on 2nd Avenue West and has remained in this location for over 40 years.
Valley Chapel of Oneonta was established in 1972 on State Highway 75 near the north end of Oneonta. Valley Chapel has served families from Oneonta, Snead, Susan Moore, Altoona, and the surrounding communities for over 35 years.
Blountsville Funeral Home was opened in 1986 on Main Street in Blountsville. The town and surrounding community was without a funeral home for many years. However, since its establishment, Blountsville Funeral Home has served the needs of many families in the Blountsville area for over 20 years.
Originally, Lemley Funeral Home, Valley Chapel of Oneonta, and Blountsville Funeral Home were independently owned and operated. However, after many years, all three owners decided to sell their firms to a corporate firm. A corporation purchased all three funeral homes and they were corporately owned and operated for several years.
In 2004, local funeral director Greg Long purchased Lemley Funeral Home, Valley Chapel of Oneonta, and Blountsville Funeral Home. He once more began to operate all three funeral homes as independent firms. Since Mr. Long's ownership, all three funeral homes have served the needs of many families.
Long Family Funeral Homes is a member of the Alabama Funeral Director Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Cremation Association of North America.
